Website Design - Three Important Elements

Website DesignYour website is like the storefront of your online business. It must portray a professional image. Otherwise, it's going to be hard for others to trust you enough to do business with you. The assumption is that if you can't even setup a simple website, you are unlikely to be able to provide high quality services. Whether that is true or not is not important. It's the perception that matters. Here are three of the most important web design elements that you may find useful.

Element 1: Color and tone of the website

This is perhaps the most important element among the three elements. When a visitor first visits your website, the first impression starts to form. Again, the accuracy of the impression isn't important. If you send all the wrong signals, the visitor will think of you as an unreliable service provider.

Errors That Can Jeopardize the Success of Your Website

Setting up a website isn’t easy, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience in the field, and if you aren’t careful, you can make mistakes that will cost you far more that you should be willing to pay. An ineffective website can turn clients away instead of luring them in; as such, here are some of the things you should most try to avoid when creating your website.

When creating your website, try to avoid using a Flash introduction. While Flash allows for many interesting and helpful applications, having a Flash introduction can make the intro page very hard to load, which can be cause to turn the site off and look elsewhere for many clients, especially those with slower connections. Having a Flash-based opening page works against you in another way as well. When creating a website, you want to search engine optimize it as best you can, but not all search engines will pick up keywords contained in a Flash presentation, as such, by using this kind of layout, not only are you not gaining anything, but you might in fact be missing out quite a lot.

Common Mistakes Made in Web Design

The main reason you would have set up a Web site would be to generate hits. This holds true for company web sites, blogs, ecommerce sites, etc. and it is particularly important for a small business. Maybe you are getting hits, but it does not translate to the kind of traffic you need for your business. So, what do you do next?

You can check out your Web site statistics, and maybe you will see a pattern emerging. Do all your visitors exit the site immediately after viewing the home page? If they do, something is radically wrong with your Web design. A developer with insufficient experience can make a lot of mistakes that can result in chasing visitors away from your site. This would make building the Web site an exercise in futility. You will be glad to know that there are others who share this problem with you. You will be even gladder to know that this problem can be solved – fairly economically and easily.

Here are some of the key problem areas in the Web design of Web sites built by inexperienced developers:

Does Your Web Design Need to Be Revisited?

A good web design is very important to engage a user. But that does not mean, the moment you have a user friendly design you can sit back. Websites should take into consideration the principles of Search Engine Optimization. If the website is well designed but the search engines don’t find it, then it won’t get as much traffic as it could. This means the website needs a redesign. Poor website design is the main reason for any websites failure. Poor web design could result in the user not being able to find the required information. Even in this case, the website should be redesigned.

If it is an old website, which has not been updated in a long time, then the search engines will think it is a dead website and hence the website will not be displayed in the search result, resulting in loss of income. Some old websites are slow which put off users and search engines list the fast loading websites first, in both these cases, web redesigning is advisable. In some websites the content jumps around as images get loaded. Redesigning should be done to fix this problem.

Some browsers don’t support frames, so if your website uses frames, then it becomes inaccessible to all the users using that browser. Hence a redesign needs to be considered. Websites using flash also make it hard for search engines by making it unreadable. Similarly web pages look very attractive with splash, but in this case, since a lot of animation is involved, there is very less text. This makes is very hard for search engines to find these websites. Though they may appear attractive they fail to get a large number of viewers. Hence redesigning should be considered.

Fundamentals of Web Design

For a website to be successful, it is important that it attracts the right audience as well as retains their attention once they reach the home page. Considering the fact that an average visitor glances over the website for only a few seconds before deciding whether or not it is worth his while, it is crucial that you design your web page to ensure that it not only attracts attention, but also retains it.

The design of any product depends upon its users and the same holds true for a website. Before you start designing your web page, let’s look at the kind of user your web site is likely to have. Firstly, your audience is an internet user who is looking for information, product or service on the website. There are a large number of sites available on the Internet that can serve his purpose and he knows it.

• If the visitor doesn’t quickly find what he is looking for on your website, he is likely to leave immediately and look for another website.

• It is important that your web site makes a good first impression and attracts the visitor’s attention quickly; else he will quickly lose interest and leave your website.
